Family Portraits with a Northern Twist
There is something truly irreplaceable about the energy of a Saskatchewan summer at the lake. Whether it’s the quiet stillness of a morning paddle at Weyakwin Lake or the vibrant, golden glow of a sunset over the water at Waskesiu, these landscapes offer more than just a backdrop—they provide a sense of home and a space for memories to breathe. If you are looking to commemorate a milestone or simply capture your family in their favorite element, a northern lake session might be exactly what you need.
While every lake in Northern Saskatchewan has its charm, a few stand out for their unique character and stunning scenery:
Waskesiu Lake: This iconic location in Prince Albert National Park offers a perfect blend of groomed beaches, historic architecture, and rugged wilderness. It is home to vibrant community events like the [link removed] and The Lakeside Music Festival.
Emma Lake: Known for its vibrant community and artistic vibe, Emma Lake offers a beautiful mix of sun-dappled forest paths and iconic Saskatchewan docks. It’s a fantastic choice for those who want a blend of classic lakefront beauty and cozy, tree-lined backgrounds—and it's conveniently located only about 30 minutes from Prince Albert.
Candle Lake: Famous for its striking turquoise waters and pristine white sand beaches, Candle Lake provides a "tropical" Saskatchewan feel that is absolutely stunning in portraits. The clarity of the water here makes for incredible reflections and a bright, airy aesthetic. Plus, there is always something happening, from swimming lessons to scuba and snorkel sessions.
Weyakwin Lake: For those seeking a quieter, more rugged northern experience, Weyakwin offers peaceful beaches and a deep connection to the boreal forest. It’s a personal favorite for capturing that true "cabin life" feel, often centered around the community's beautiful beach areas.
Planning Your Session
What to Wear: While I often recommend choosing a cohesive color palette—like warm autumn tones or bright summer colors—without being too "matchy," I have learned that the most important thing is your comfort. Avoiding bold patterns and large brand names helps keep the focus on your faces, but honestly? Wear whatever makes you feel like you. As long as you can have fun and connect in front of the camera, your photos will be beautiful.
Accessibility & Comfort: I am committed to making sessions accessible for everyone. If you have specific needs—such as wheelchair accessibility—we will scout locations together to ensure every member of your family is comfortable and safe.
Investment: Sessions typically are $395 (give or take with the situation). I also offer specialized packages at certain times of the year if I have multiple mini sessions booked together. If you and some friends each want an individual mini session at the lake, contact me for special mini session pricing!
Spots for July and August fill up quickly as I balance my time between the city and the lake. If you are ready to capture the magic of your family or celebrate your graduate in the heart of Saskatchewan’s north, I would love to hear from you.
