You Don't Need a Lake to Make Beautiful Family Photos

There's something about summer at the lake that makes photographing families feel extra special.

The trees. The water. Bare feet. Wind-blown hair. Kids running ahead. Dogs splashing along the shoreline. Parents watching their kids play in a place that holds years of memories.

I've had the opportunity to photograph some beautiful families at Saskatchewan lakes this summer, and I love how much meaning a familiar place can bring to photographs.

But here's the thing...

You don't need a cabin. You don't need a lake. And you definitely don't need a vacation to have beautiful family photos.

Some of my favourite family sessions happen right here in and around Saskatoon.

We can find tall grasses, trees, open fields, trails, golden light, or a quiet little spot that feels completely different from the city. Your kids can run, explore, throw rocks, walk with the dog, snuggle with Mom and Dad, and just be themselves.

And honestly? That's what I'm looking for.

Not perfect smiles.

Not everyone sitting perfectly still.

Not a family that looks like they're posing for a catalogue.

Your family.

The way your daughter laughs when her brother does something ridiculous.

The way your little one reaches for Dad's hand.

The way your teenagers still secretly enjoy being close to their parents.

The family dog who somehow manages to be in every photograph.

The tiny moments you don't realize you'll miss until years later.

Your Favourite Place Makes the Best Backdrop. If your family has a special place—a cabin at Candle Lake, a favourite beach, a campground, or even your own backyard—I would love to photograph you there.

There is something incredibly meaningful about documenting your family in a place that already holds memories.

But if you don't have that special place, don't worry.

I'll help you find one.

Saskatoon and the surrounding area have so many beautiful locations for family photography. We can create the feeling of an outdoor adventure without driving hours away.

And as summer starts to wind down, this is actually one of my favourite times to start thinking about your next family session.

Before This Season Changes

Maybe your kids have grown a little taller this summer.

Maybe your teenager is suddenly looking much more grown up.

Maybe your family has welcomed a new dog.

Maybe someone is heading off to university. Maybe this is the last summer before things change.

Or maybe nothing particularly big has happened at all.

That's okay too.

You don't need a milestone to take the photograph.

Sometimes the ordinary seasons are the ones we become most nostalgic about.

So whether your perfect family photo involves a lake, a forest, a field, or one of Saskatoon's beautiful outdoor spaces, I'd love to help you capture it.

Because summer may be coming to an end...

But there are still plenty of beautiful evenings ahead.

And your family is worth photographing exactly as you are right now.

Saskatoon family sessions are now booking for late summer and fall.

Let's find a beautiful spot, bring the people you love, and make some photographs you'll want to keep forever.
